EU trademark registration
An EU trademark costs €1,530 all in for one class, including the €850 fee charged by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and protects your name or logo in all 27 member states for 10 years. Registration takes four to six months if nobody opposes it. The United Kingdom is not covered and needs its own filing.

EUIPO charges €850 for the first class, €50 for the second and €150 for each class from the third. Those fees are set by EUIPO and are the same whoever files for you. They are listed in Annex I to Regulation (EU) 2017/1001, the EU trademark regulation.

VAT is added to our fee only. The SME Fund refunds 75% of the EUIPO fee, up to the €700 voucher maximum, for eligible EU SMEs whose voucher is granted before filing.
Which countries an EU trademark covers
All 27 EU member states: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
It does not cover the United Kingdom. EU trademarks stopped covering the UK on 1 January 2021, and a business selling into both needs a separate UK registration. It also does not cover Switzerland, Norway or Turkey.
How long does EU trademark registration take?
About four to six months from filing if nobody objects, because the three-month opposition period alone takes half of it.

An opposition or an examiner objection extends this considerably, sometimes by more than a year.
What EUIPO checks, and what it does not
EUIPO examines whether the mark works as a trademark at all. It refuses marks that are purely descriptive of the goods, that are generic, or that lack distinctive character. It refuses "Fresh Bread" for a bakery.
EUIPO does not refuse your application because somebody already owns a similar mark. It notifies the owners of earlier marks that your application has been published and leaves it to them to file an opposition within three months.
That is why a clearance search before filing matters. The office will happily register a mark that a competitor can later attack, and you will not find out until they do.
Reclaiming 75% through the EU SME Fund
If your business qualifies as an EU SME, the EUIPO SME Fund reimburses 75% of the official fee. On a one-class filing that returns €638 of the €850 EUIPO fee, bringing the total to about €895.
The voucher has to be granted before you file. File first and the money is gone. We apply for the voucher and file once it is in place.
The 2026 trademark and design voucher is currently closed because EUIPO exhausted the budget, and EUIPO has published no reopening date. Adora IP expects it to reopen in October or November 2026. Join the alert list.
