Bulgaria trademark registration

A Bulgarian national trademark is filed at the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria and protects your mark in Bulgaria only, for up to three classes in one application. It makes sense once you trade in Bulgaria specifically; the moment you sell across borders, an EU trademark covering all 27 member states becomes far better value per country.

When a national filing makes sense

When you trade in Bulgaria and nowhere else. At €540 for three classes against €1,950 for the same coverage across the EU, the national route costs just over a quarter as much.

It stops making sense as soon as you sell across borders. A Bulgarian mark gives you no rights in Germany, Spain or anywhere else, and an EU trademark covering all 27 member states becomes far better value per country.

Filing nationally first and adding an EU mark later is possible, and the national registration can be used as the basis for claiming seniority.

Prices exclude VAT. The Patent Office fees are €265.87 for filing and examination in up to three classes plus €25.56 for the registration certificate, under article 3(1) of the Patent Office tariff in force since 1 January 2026, as amended on 16 October 2026. Each class after the third adds €15.34.

EU funding covers this too

The EUIPO SME Fund reimburses 75% of official fees at national as well as EU level. For a Bulgarian filing that returns €219 of the €291.43 in office fees, bringing the total to about €325.
